SUNDAY SCHOOL
Pathfinders
The Pathfinders Sunday School
class is dedicated to helping young adults study the
teachings of Jesus Christ and God’s Word. By using
examples and teachings from the Bible, we apply
these events to help better our family, our
community and ourselves. Topics of study have
included the Gospels of the New Testament, current
events and their relation with Bible teachings, and
the teachings of Max Lucado. Currently we are
studying how to raise our children as Christians.
Our fellowship extends outside the
classroom. We have social events that include our
children. Some of these have been picnics and trips
to Smokies games. Being a Christian does not end
when Sunday school and Church services are over. We
try to maintain fellowship outside of church by
building friendships and ties through these extra
activities.

Covenant
Sunday School Class
The Covenant class takes it’s name from the
rainbow which reminds us of God’s covenant with Noah
and God’s many covenants with His people. This class
includes a wide variety of personalities and ages
ranging from late 30’s to late 80’s. Our lesson
format is Cokesbury Adult Bible Studies Series,
which alternates quarterly between Old and New
Testament. We rotate teachers regularly and welcome
class discussion and participation. The Covenant
classroom is located on the 2nd floor of Education
Building. |

Wesleyan Sunday School Class
The Wesleyan Class is primarily (but not
limited to) older adults. Text for this class is
Cokesbury Adult Bible Studies Series, which
alternates quarterly between Old and New Testament.

Good Fellowship Class
The Good Fellowship class is the oldest
established class in the church and is located just
off the Great Hall near the kitchen. The class
consists of a group of women ranging from middle age
and older. If this conjures up a scene of “Little
Old Ladies” remembers the so-called “Good old
Days”….Forget it!! We discuss the lesson in terms of
what the Bible teaches us now and in the future. We
would welcome anyone of any age to join us. |

Mell Emert Trotter Class
Mell Trotter was a tireless worker in the
church and community who was loved by both young and
old. This caring class is a mature group with young
ideas and a deeply rooted set of values. We believe
God’s Truth to be whole and complete but the way we
receive this truth changes, so we are constantly
reading and reinterpreting the scripture to find
truth and meaning for our lives. This classroom is
located on the 2nd floor of the Educational
Building. |

New Horizons Class
We are a middle aged group of
couples and singles who are supportive, friendly,
open, accepting, inclusive, evangelical, and are
folks working to meet each other’s needs during the
week.. We gather socially for many occasions. Our
goal is to be scripturally based in our studies; use
talents of each member; rotate our study content
quarterly; generate participative, lively,
discussion from biblically based content. Our
mission is to grow through God’s word; learn how to
apply his word in our daily lives; grow our
awareness of and be sensitive to the needs of those
he puts in our path; and to live so that others will
know we are Christians by our love and by our acts. |
 |

during good times and hard times. The class was

BIBLE STUDIES
Disciple Bible Studies
For 24 weeks, 8 believers have met on Wednesday
morning to explore Jesus in the Gospels. Those
attending have been in Bible study groups
previously, but this particular one soon led each of
us into a much deeper spiritual journey to meet
Jesus in a more profound aspect, almost as if we
were sitting at His feet. It is difficult to
describe how rich has been the depth of the study,
the insights we have shared with each other, and the
changes we all feel have occurred as a result of
this commitment. The work will end in six more
weeks, but the impact will remain with all of us
forever. Our prayer is that we will become the
servants God has intended for us to be as a result
of the blessings of this experience.
FUMC Sevierville offers this
Disciple Bible Studies series on an "as desired"
basis. A Disciple Study Group is typically composed
of up to twelve students and one leader/learner.
There are four separate adult Disciple Bible
Studies, each consisting of a structured, intensive
30 to 34 week study. Daily bible reading and
journaling are an important part of the study. At
the weekly meetings, questions are explored that are
designed to stimulate group discussion. Each Disciple Study is described below:
-
Disciple I - Becoming
Disciples Through Bible Study. This is a
general survey of the entire bible and is the
prerequisite to the other studies. The student
will read approximately 70% of the bible during
the 34 weeks. Lesson thirty-three is a special
time of positive affirmation and discernment .
Each person is given an opportunity during that
meeting to talk about their personal goals for
discipleship. The hoped-for results of this
study are to develop biblically nourished
persons committed to live as disciples.
-
Disciple II - Into the
Word Into the World. This intensive study
is divided into four segments. Each of the books
of Genesis, Exodus, Luke, and Acts are studied
for eight weeks. Like Disciple I the lessons
include thought provoking questions for the
individual and group. This study emphasizes the
rhythm of coming to God and going for God, of
being in the Word and in the world individually
and corporately.
-
Disciple III - Remember
Who You Are. This is an intensive 32-week
study is divided into two segments of 16 weeks
each. The first 16 weeks concentrates on the
books of the prophets and the second 16 weeks on
Paul's letters. It includes the same thought
provoking questions for the individual and for
the group as Disciple I and Disciple II. It
calls clergy and laity to disciplined Bible
study that will result in a ministering
community nourished by Scripture.
-
Disciple IV - Under The
Tree Of Life. This is an intensive
32-week study of Old and new Testament Writings.
In the Old Testament the books of Ruth,
Chronicles, Ezra, Nehemiah, Esther, Job, Psalms,
Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Solomon,
Lamentations, and Daniel are studied. In the new
testament the Gospel of John; 1st, 2nd, 3rd
John; James; Jude and Revelation are covered. It
continues to call clergy and laity to serious,
disciplined Bible study that will result in
development of biblically nourished
servant-leaders.

United
Methodist Women (UMW)
In the United Methodist Church, every woman is a
member of United Methodist Women. It's automatic! No
initiation rites, no dues — all are invited to
attend meetings and to take part in the mission and
activities of the United Methodist Women. The
purpose of the UMW is to:
"Be a community of women whose
purpose is to know God and to experience freedom
as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to
develop a creative supportive fellowship; and to
expand concepts of mission through participation
in the global ministries of the church. "
Join us as we venture into
learning about ourselves, our world and our God. We
have numerous opportunities each year to have good
fellowship, excellent discussion, and help our
church, community, and world know that we care.
Examples of UMW leadership and
participation include New Visions, World Day of
Prayer, Jubilation, Day Apart, Hands-on-Mission
bags, Lake Junaluska Spiritual Enrichment weekend,
Holston Annual Conference, the School of Christian
Mission, Lake Junaluska Annual Meeting, support to
SafeSpace (refuge for abused families), Prayer
Calendar, the UMW reading program, Christmas gifts
for a needy family, and benefit programs for
Mountain Hope Good Shepherd Clinic (for uninsured
